Didier Rittener – Bien, mal, pareil

FARB – Fondation Anne et Robert Bloch

08.03.2025 - 08.06.2025

In Les Pommiers or Indécente forêt, Didier Rittener recreates a new Garden of Eden by selecting, appropriating and assembling designs of trees from 21 works of art evoking the myth of the original sin – from Hieronymus Bosch to the Douanier Rousseau. Presented at the FARB alongside the Moutier-Grandval Bible exhibition, this monumental hand-drawn work is reminiscent of the work of medieval copyist monks, with its slow and meticulous production process.

This non-existent forest rubs shoulders with scenes of crimes that never took place; the artist’s works question the truth, evoking the possibility of giving the world a different direction. Didier Rittener uses images from the history of art, extracting them of their original context to challenge the contemporary iconographic production, as well as our visual certainties.
