The Moutier-Grandval Bible returns to Jura in 2025

08.03.2025 - 08.06.2025

A cultural and historical journey through Europe, from the Middle Ages to the present day

From 8 March to 8 June 2025, the Moutier-Grandval Bible, preserved in the British Library in London, will be making its return to the Jura. Recognised as one of the finest manuscripts in the world, it bears witness to a rich cultural and spiritual tradition.

Since at least the 19th century, its history and its sumptuous illustrations have captivated specialists. Transcribed by a score of copyist monks in the 9th Century, this medieval masterpiece has travelled through time – and across borders – on a journey that was sometimes perilous, sometimes secret, but always fantastic…to be discovered.

The coming of this manuscript is also an opportunity to admire other exceptional items, including Carolingian manuscripts on loan from several Swiss institutions.

Tickets

For reasons of conservation and visitor comfort, the discovery of the precious manuscript is possible only in small groups for a limited time. Admission tickets must be booked in advance.
